Excited about recruitment? But what even happens? Lets talk Xi...

From learning about philanthropies to running home on bid day, recruitment week is plenty eventful to say the least! I know when I went through recruitment, I had no idea what to expect, what to wear, or what was going on! This post is here to help you figure out what you're getting into during this wonderful week of Greek women. 

Philanthropy Day

Remember a few blogs ago when we talked about what philanthropy was? This is when that comes in handy! This is the day where every sorority tells you about their amazing philanthropy! Get to know their philanthropy because once you find your home, it will become part of your college experience. Since this is the first full day of recruitment, this is your chance to get to know these women and form connections with them, too! Remember to be yourself always to make genuine connections.

Sisterhood and Values Day

This is a day where you have to do some serious thinking! What do you want in a sisterhood? Where can you find that? Each sorority has their own aspects of sisterhood. When you go to their room, every sorority will explain what their sisterhood is and does and what makes them unique! Honesty, support, involvement, leadership. These are just a few things to give you an idea of what to look for. What kind of sisterhood events do they have? What makes their sisterhood unique? What do they look for in their sisterhood? And remember to be yourself to find the sisterhood that matches your values and your personality. 

Preference Day

Time to seal the deal. This day is when you decide where you want to be. You've made connections with these women throughout the past few days. You've learned about their philanthropy, values, and sisterhood, and now it is time to see what they think of you! Whether there is a ceremony or a video or just some one-on-one conversation, each sorority is hoping to show you how important you are to them. This is also your opportunity to tell them how important they are to you! If that is where you want to be, then by all means tell them! This is a sentimental day for everyone because they are sharing their story of why they chose to be a sister of this sorority and why they stayed. Listen to their stories and soak it up! Is that something you could see yourself saying to a girl in recruitment next year? Could you see yourself spending long study nights with these girls? Could you see yourself going to sisterhood events, formals, mixers, and philanthropy events with these girls? Can you see yourself running home to them on bid day? Time to make your decision.

Bid Day

BID DAY BEST DAY! After waiting and wondering and hoping, it is time to run home to your new sisters! You wake up that morning (if you slept at all because I know I didn't), and you head to campus to find out which sorority you get to call home! While you sit at campus waiting to open your bid, the sisters are getting bid day signs ready, adding some extra glitter, and finishing up their final touches to their bid day outfit waiting to hear who their new sisters are! 

You get handed your envelope with your bid, but wait! You can't open it quite yet. The suspense will set it and you hold your envelope tightly. The recruitment counselors count down until you open your bid. 3... 2... 1... OPEN! 

FINALLY! You get your bid day shirt and take some pictures with your new member class sisters. Time to walk down the stairs to get ready to run home. As you walk through the doors you can hear your new sisters cheering and chanting waiting on you! Finally you run home, find your bid day sign, and maybe tackle the girl holding it. Who knows, but you finally made it home to your sisters!
